Before partnering with Marketing Architect, Pacific House Hostel (PHH) had reached the ceiling of what organic could deliver. They knew Sydney’s hostel market was heating up; competitors were running paid ads across multiple platforms, deploying strategic offers to attract travellers, and PHH couldn’t afford to stand still.
After a full-funnel overhaul across Google, Meta, social media and website optimisation, digital has became a core, reliable booking channel for the business, delivering a 17% uplift in net website revenue year-on-year YTD (May 2026).
Landing page & website optimisation
We worked closely with PHH to audit the full path from ad click to room booking, identifying friction points and implementing targeted website optimisations and new page developments designed to maximise conversion rates. Every improvement was made with PHH’s brand and guest experience front of mind, ensuring that traffic driven by paid media landed on pages built to convert. The result was a smoother, faster booking journey that turned more visitors into paying guests, without compromising the warmth and character of the PHH brand.
Full-funnel paid media strategy
Across Google and Meta, we implemented a comprehensive paid media strategy spanning cold acquisition and strategic retargeting. By covering the entire customer journey, we were able to nurture travellers from first discovery through to booking. Google captured high-intent searchers looking for Sydney hostel accommodation, while Meta built awareness and kept PHH front of mind. Continuous creative testing and audience refinement steadily drove down cost per conversion while keeping ad creative on-brand.
Scalable and predictable bookings
Through ongoing testing, optimisation and close collaboration with the PHH team, paid media evolved into a reliable and scalable booking channel. Cost per conversion across both Meta & Google reduced to as low as $17 with a Return on Ad Spend as high as 15.3 x. Month on month, digital performance continues to strengthen, establishing paid media as a consistent and cost-efficient driver of direct bookings for the business.
THE CHALLENGE
Over the years, Pacific House Hostel had built a loyal guest base and solid reputation through organic channels alone. Yet they knew organic had taken them as far as it could, and with competitors actively running paid campaigns across Google and Meta, standing still was no longer an option.
Key challenges included:
- No paid media presence across Google or Meta
- Over-reliance on organic traffic with limited ability to scale bookings
- No unified strategy across paid, social and website
- Inconsistent tracking and limited visibility into digital performance
- Opportunity for website optimisation to capture prospects more efficiently
- No social media framework or consistent creative approach
PHH needed a partner who understood the hostel market, could introduce paid media with precision, and turn their digital presence into a consistent, scalable driver of direct bookings.
THE SOLUTION
Marketing Architect implemented an end-to-end performance strategy tailored to PHH’s traveller audience and the fast-moving, competitive Sydney hostel market.
We built Google Search campaigns from the ground up using refined keyword strategy, strong negative keyword lists, improved ad relevancy and smart budget allocation. This ensured every dollar of ad spend was working hard to capture high-intent travellers actively searching for Sydney accommodation.
To extend reach beyond Search, we introduced Meta campaigns designed to follow the full customer journey. Cold audience campaigns tested a range of creative formats to attract new travellers, alongside retargeting campaigns to re-engage visitors who had shown interest but not yet booked, building familiarity and trust at every touchpoint.
On social media, we developed a strategy and creative template package that gave PHH a consistent, on-brand presence across Facebook and Instagram, improving organic reach, brand awareness and engagement alongside the paid activity.
We also audited the full path from ad click to booking, identifying friction points and implementing website optimisations and new page developments to maximise direct booking conversion. Ongoing collaboration with the PHH team has ensured campaigns and creative continue to evolve as performance scales.
